Kirchberg: cosy and diverse

A Tyrolean village with charm

The village of Kirchberg, with a population of 5,000, is often referred to as the little sister of world-famous Kitzbühel. In fact, the two towns are connected by the same ski area, but in contrast to chic Kitzbühel, Kirchberg is much more tranquil and cosy than its big sister town.

In terms of sport, Kirchberg is in no way inferior to Kitzbühel – on the contrary! Skiers and snowboarders can easily reach the famous Streif from Kirchberg with the Fleckalmbahn cable car and thus have a direct connection to the Kitzbühel ski area. But that’s not all: Kirchberg is also connected to the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser – Brixental via the Ki-West cable car and therefore to the largest linked ski area in Austria. So variety is guaranteed when skiing in Kirchberg!

Guaranteed snow from October to May

200 days of skiing fun in Kirchberg

The early bird catches the worm! In Kirchberg, you can start the ski season in October. Skiing this early is usually only possible in glacier ski areas. However, the favourable climatic location, combined with a clever trick, also make the early start of the ski season possible in the Kirchberg/Kitzbühel ski area. The decisive factor for this is snow farming at the end of the winter season. The snow is pushed together into a large pile and then covered with a special foil. As a result, the snow lasts through the summer and can be distributed on the slopes again in autumn. An early start to the season is therefore guaranteed in Kirchberg thanks to last year’s snow!

Winter holidays in Kirchberg are packed with variety. Explore our enchanting mountains off-piste. For example with a ski tour up the Schwarzkogel (for advanced ski tourers) or with snowshoes around Aschau (moderately difficult).

Cross-country skiers are also in the right place in Kirchberg. You can really let off steam and take in the fresh air on the trails from Kirchberg to Kitzbühel or Westendorf. We would also like to highly recommend a winter hike to Ruetzenhof. Situated on the sunny side of Kirchberg, the 270-year-old wooden mountain inn is a truly magical place. The view is stupendous and if there’s enough snow you can even toboggan back down to Kirchberg.

Kirchberg for night owls

If you want, you can also enjoy night skiing and night tobogganing on the Gaisberg in the evening until 9.30 p.m. Kirchberg’s local mountain is illuminated by floodlights and the 4-seater chairlift also runs in the evening.

Our tip: Pick up your skis from the Kirchberg ski rental shop on the day of your arrival and use the evening for night skiing on the Gaisberg. The Kirchberg RENTertainers’ recommendations

Tips from genuine Tyroleans

With more than 60 ski huts and just as many restaurants in Kirchberg how do you choose the right one? Really easily! Us RENTertainers, passionate Kirchberg locals ourselves, reveal our insider tips:

If your stomach is rumbling on the slopes, all routes lead to the Gauxer Stadl. Situated on the Pengelstein run, the fun hosts welcome you as soon as you stop for a break. The kitchen is just as good as the atmosphere and indulges you with classic goulash soup, hearty Cordon Bleu or sweet Kaiserschmarrn. Or how about a tasty bacon sandwich for a quick snack? Always accompanied by the magical view from the mountain hut’s terrace over the surrounding mountains.

After a long day of skiing, an exquisite evening meal in the valley is of course also a must. Look forward to the varied menu and delicious steaks at the Pfeffermühle right in the heart of Kirchberg!
