Skiing in Wengen: at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau

The mountain village of Wengen is a popular ski resort in the Bernese Oberland in winter. Also known as the "village of the Jungfrau", it is right at the doorstep of the Swiss mountains Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The ski destination is the venue for reoccurring the FIS Ski Lauberhorn race in the Super G, downhill and slalom disciplines, which has been held since 1930.

The ski slopes in Wengen are characterised by their variety and invite you to enjoy a wide range of winter sports activities.

By the way: If you want to venture into the backcountry and want to let off steam in deep snow, then slopes no. 5 and 14 are the place to be. These are opened two days after fresh snowfall, which minimises the risk of avalanches.

From the ski resort of Wengen, you can take the Männlichen cable car to the summit of Männlichen (2,342 metres above sea level). A slope paradise opens up here with numerous descents and a fantastic backdrop. No matter if you want to go fast or take your time on the descents – what about a quick stop at the idyllic ski resort of Grindelwald?

The Eiger Express also takes you from Grindelwald to the Eiger Glacier. Before you set off again to discover kilometres of runs, you can send greetings to your friends at home. There's a photo point on the Lauberhorn: simply scan your ski pass, snap a panoramic picture and continue your speedy journey! The World Cup downhill course also starts from up here und brings you all the way back to Wengen. The best leisure activities in Wengen

But it's not just skiers who get their money's worth in Wengen. The centrally located ice rink invites you to skate, curl and play ice hockey - all with a view of the breathtaking mountain scenery.

Wengen also has plenty to offer for sledging enthusiasts, as there are around 50 kilometres of runs throughout the Jungfrau region. While some prefer the Fox Run next to the Laubhorn run to Wengen, others venture up to the Faulhorn to experience the longest sledging descent in the world. And if you don't manage to explore the routes during daylight, you can also try the Jungfrau Eiger Run at night.

Less action-packed but with an equally impressive backdrop are the winter hiking trails around Wengen. Both on the Eiger Glacier and in Mürren, as well as above Grindelwald, there are several options just waiting to be discovered.

Relaxation in and around Wengen

The car-free village of Wengen offers more than just a variety of slopes and winter hiking trails. In the village itself, small shops, cafés and restaurants invite you to stroll around and if you want to take a look at the region, you can learn a lot about its history in the museum in Grindelwald, for example.

Culinary delights are a top priority in the villages, which is why you can enjoy local dishes. In Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen and Mürren local cheeses, dried sausages, homemade beer and schnapps are waiting to be savoured by visitors. Another highlight is the confectionery on the Eiger Glacier at 2,320 metres. The finest chocolate specialities are available - including the famous "Eigerspitzli" pralines.
